God is Not a Wishing Well

You cannot just rub a lamp for these

God, I wish to have money and friends.  God, I want to own a boat and a big house.  What do we do with wishing wells?  We walk over, toss in a coin and wish for something we want and walk away.  Honestly, you would get better luck just grabbing a soda from a soda machine. At least that is a better return for your money!

There are many theories online of where the whole wishing well idea came from.  Some say that clean water was a scarcity and they believed clean water was a gift from the gods and that it had magical powers.

During my walk with God this was something I found myself doing.  I found myself praying for things I wanted or needed all of the time and less time praying for others or asking God what he wanted from me. I had to reposition my thinking from selfish to selfless.

I would love to see what everyone’s prayer journal looks like? I wish I could be like Bruce Almighty and read all of the prayer emails that he got in the movie just to see all of the crazy things I have asked for in my life. Especially my prayers from middle school, how funny would that be. I wonder how often my prayers would stem from jealousy or envy.

James 4:1-2 “What is causing quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.”

James 4:3-6 “And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong-you want only what will give you pleasure. You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God?

Friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God

When I made the shift (a slow one for me) from worldly wishes to spiritual wishes things began to happen for me.  When you truly shift your life and surrender to God more and more the room for darkness in your spirit becomes less and less. Prayers begun to get answered more and more.  You begin to ask for prayer for other people, even people who have hurt you. You mature in your spirit enough to know when it is time to ask for certain things.

When you change your praying method to selfless and truly ask God what he wants from you and to give you wisdom and help you with the fruits of the spirit, be warned it is not easy.  He will help you achieve wisdom and peace and sometimes things that you want and need, but with learning comes great challenges. If you ask for patience, he is not going to grab a teapot full of patience teabags and fill you up with it.  He is going to test you and grow your patience that way. God is a creator and with that he knows the best way to make something stick and last for a long time. He knows the best way to perfect and mold.

It doesn’t mean God will never give you want you want

James 15:5-7 “Yes, I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”

We must still pray boldly as followers of Christ you see it in the promise above from Christ himself in James. He knows the desires of our hearts. If our hearts are in the right place and when we are spiritually ready for what we are asking God for he will give it to us. You know what I said about patience, sometimes when waiting on a prayer request is when we learn it the most.

God wants us to be happy, and although there is hurt and suffering in this life it wasn’t meant to be this way when he first created us. God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.  It was supposed to be a place of peace and easy living with God. Once the curse was upon us after they ate the forbidden fruit is when it all got messed up. More about the “Original Sin” by Explore God

“Why create us if you knew we would screw it up in Eden?”

I used to be angry in a time where suffering was all I was in. I used to wonder “God, if you knew we were going to mess up why did you do it, why create us?”

Then it hit me. I am not Adam and Eve, he still wants to spend eternity with us, unfortunately not everyone will make it to spend eternity with God but he loves us enough that he wanted to still create us, his children.  He loved us so much that he sacrificed his son for us because he knew we would all remain sinners unless Jesus came to pay our debt.

Ultimately I had to remember that God is our father too. A parent in today’s world and society has to consider that if they have a child it would have to endure pain and suffering. They still do it because it is worth it enough to love and be loved by your child for a lifetime. When I realized this after hearing that still small voice I just felt this anger release from me. I feel that same peaceful, overwhelming joy just writing about it.

Here is a great resource if you are currently going though some pain and suffering.

Explore God

God knew that this life would be difficult but he offers peace and love in the meantime until Christ returns for us.  He offers strength and things that we desire with a pure heart. SO PRAY BOLDLY, but pray with a pure heart and remember He>I.

This is something someone reading had to hear and I had to remind myself.  I hope it helped you all and I hope to see you soon on Twitter or IG: herheartonfire

Behaving While Waiting

Waiting For the Seed to Turn Into a Harvest

This is where I am, waiting. Can anyone relate?  If you can let me know with a comment, send me a sign that we are all in the seed planting parts of our lives together and we can pray for each other!!

If you are with me, we are waiting like a young child who has been promised that going to the toy store is going to happen.  Now if you told a child that they are going to the toy store but do not give them a time of when what do they do?

They ask questions: When, How, Why not now? As the parent if the child began to act up and cause a fuss, you are less likely to bless them by going to the store anytime sooner than you had planned.

If I were the parent I know that I would probably wait until the child had a better attitude.  After reading this did you have a flashback of hissy fits that you had lasting A LOT longer than a child’s. ME TOO!!!!!

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Telling this child that they are going to the toy store is the seed and it was up to the child on how long he or she would have to wait on the harvest. Sometimes it is up to God and his timing because his timing is perfect compared to ours.  He is never too early and never too late but ALWAYS ON TIME. Sometimes it is up to us and how we behave while we are waiting.

pa·tience meaning, the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.

Usually when I am going through stuff, or feeling like I’m needing some uplifting I do some research on other people who have been going through or have been through the same thing. This is kind of my motivation behind Her Heart On Fire.

Passive or Expectant?

In this post on Joyce Meyers website it gives you two examples of how to wait.  You can be passive, and just hope something good will fall into your lap, and when you feel you have waited long enough you give up. This would be like if the child decided not to believe the parent and start to rebel against your parent because they didn’t “follow through”.

Or you can be an expectant waiter and do things that help you get there aka “harvest your seed”. If the child decided to clean up their act and start behaving and doing things to help the parent decide that the child was ready then the child would get to go to the toy store and much faster than the passive child.

Genesis 8:22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.”

Prisoners of Hope

We must hold on to hope.  One thing that can kill your seed or keeping it from harvest is not having faith in God and what he can do.

Zechariah 9:12 “Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.”

Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Let’s Wait together and in prayer! I wanna meet you on Twitter and IG!

Scripture of The Day

Sin brings death

James 1:15 ” Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

Waiting Until Marriage: Sex Confession

Why I Wish I Waited

Looking in my jewelry box, I see my purity ring.  It used to be a reminder of my purity and promise to God that I would wait on the one HE chose for me to become one flesh with.  For others it was a reminder that I was a goody two shoes that didn’t do anything crazy or fun. I wish I could tell my self back then “Do not listen to them!” “It is just the Devil trying to ruin your life!”

It wasn’t that I wasn’t strong enough at the time, it was over time where I became weak.

What happened you ask?  College happened.

I moved to a beach town with a party school basically right next door. I was following a high school boyfriend that I thought I couldn’t live without. My first mistake was putting God in the backseat and my boyfriend in the front. Now, I am sure you are probably guessing what happened but shockingly, I didn’t lose my virginity to my high school boyfriend. (I know he probably had a few things to say about me after seeing how I changed in college)

I was very sheltered in the good ole’ days. My parents were pretty stern on what I could and could not do and I feel like a little more flexibility would have helped in me not going as crazy when I left home, but their sternness seemed to keep me out of trouble. I am not blaming my parents at all, my actions were my own.  People are raised very different and they have different behaviors and personalities.

Parents do not control our every actions so it is important that we do not point fingers in life, because that will get us nowhere.

Back to it, so it started with roommates that I met on a website to find other roommates (not as sketchy as it sounds). My boyfriend had all intentions to party and experience college so in turn I was his sheep following his every step. I followed him to this beach city because my comfort was in him and not my Savior.  It started with bad influences to more bad influences to the worst influences.  I got to a point where I was getting bored and wanted to experience more. I broke it off with familiar and started dating unfamiliar.

That worldly life promises you things and even pulls through on a few things that you want, like popularity for example.  I wasn’t popular in high school, I had a purity ring and to most people that is a bulls eye for ridicule and I craved for people to like me after spending my “glory” years as a “goody, goody”.

James 1:15 New King James Version (NKJV)

15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Sin always starts small, and gets bigger and that results in God getting farther away.  I talk about the enemy and how Satan wants to KILL STEAL and DESTROY, (John 10:10) I wish I could play my entire life for you with subtitles where Satan and his evil works would be uncovered.

As a result of my dying spirit I lost all of my self-control and started experimenting with drugs, alcohol and sex.(Explained in another blog) I swore to God and to my Parents that I was going to wait until marriage and I didn’t. It wasn’t an all of the sudden gloom and doom once I did loose my virginity, it mainly affected me when I came back to my faith.  During the time of promiscuity I ended up with a broken heart.  You become one when you lay with someone and you grow attached to them, really attached and when you get hurt, that is when the Jezebel spirit comes out.

I hate that TV and Movies glamorize sex with multiple partners, it is NEVER realistic.  I know that when I was sexually active before marriage I felt lousy and each time under appreciated and stupid.  It is not the will of God for your body.

1 Corinthians 6:18 “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.”

I was sad for what I had done and the promises I broke with my Heavenly Father.  Once I got married after we both had gone back to Christ I then mourned my purity for a while. I had to reel it back in and remember God’s grace and his never ending love.

Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

The Chief Cause of Misery

Vain About Beauty and Position?

Spiritual Poison.

Pride…there I said it.  Most of you will either change this article or say “Oh that doesn’t pertain to me.”  THINK AGAIN! I had to! (Article below for symptoms of pride if you’re not sure.)

Pride started with Satan.  Yes, our enemy.  If you have forgotten the history of why he was kicked out of Heaven you should go back and take a look at the whole chapter of 28 in Ezekiel.

Ezekiel 28 NIV Your heart became proud on account of your beauty and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.18 By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching.19 All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a  horrible end and will be no more.”

I have been studying this because God brought this to my attention.  When you pray for him to reveal your heart and show you what to work on, he WILL DO IT.  I tell you what sometimes I should get treated for BURNS…ooohhhh.  Ok seriously, this is what I am currently working on.

A prideful spirit will cause harm in your relationship with God and others.

Pride will keep you from saying sorry or calling out to the Lord when you need him the most. This poisonous sin will keep you wanting, wishing and lusting after what other’s have. Pride will keep you looking down on others that don’t have.  It is a terribly cycle that has been making humans MISERABLE for centuries.

“The Christians are right; it is pride which has been the chief cause of misery in every nation and every family since the world began.” -C.S. Lewis

Thomas Tarrant’s wrote in his article Pride and Humility

” In fact, what throughout history
has been recognized as the deadliest of vices is
now almost celebrated as a virtue in our culture. Pride
and arrogance are conspicuous among the rich, the
powerful, the successful, the famous, and celebrities
of all sorts, and even some religious leaders. And it is
also alive and well in ordinary people, including each
of us. Yet few of us realize how dangerous it is to our
souls and how greatly it hinders our intimacy with
God and love for others.”

Why does Pride Make us Miserable?

Just look at your Instagram…how many celebs or mini celebs do you follow? (I am am speaking for myself too.) How many of you have thousands of followers? Do you find yourself having to boast or brag about your lifestyle?

What do we do?  We aimlessly gawk and stare at these lives that we will never lead and we envy them. Or we go on to a post and boast lifestyle is what I call it.  We are then the envied. This poison cycle has us feeling either prideful or inadequate which leaves no room for God and others.  If we are so busy trying impress the Devil’s world how are we going to focus on entering and growing God’s eternal kingdom?

1 John 2:16 “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.”

Pride before a fall…

Pride always comes before a fall.  Just going back to the example of Satan, he became prideful and wanted to be exalted even before God.  God deflated his ego, REAL QUICK and sent him down to the lowest of lows.

Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Why does God want us to fall?  I will tell you from experience that when you do fall after having a haughty and prideful spirit you are humbled in a way that all you can do is throw your hands up and surrender. Where there is a surrendered spirit there is God with open arms and LOVE.  He hates pride and knows how it can completely destroy you which is the Devil’s number one goal in your life.

Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”

7 Good Post-it Note Desk Scriptures

Ah Yea!  Stick’em EVERYWHERE

Does anyone else do this?  Put post-it note scriptures scattered along your desk at work or on the fridge?  You can put them on any free surface that a post-it note will stick on! Down below you will see an image of my life…OK just kidding.

The Start of My Post-It Notes

God’s word is amazing and I know this whole post sounds cliche but I thought it was until I started doing this more.  Some days I needed that little extra reminder in the crazy world. The most POWERFUL thing to do is to confess his word and to study it. I also think that it is a good idea to pull scriptures on things we need to work on that the holy spirit has brought to your attention.  I will confess, mine right now is pride. (blog post to follow)

These are pretty generic YET POWERFUL scriptures that really help me throughout the day, and I thought that I would share to kick off coming back to Her Heart Blogging.

Also be sure to follow Her Heart on TWITTER and INSTAGRAM for more scriptures and food for spirit!

7 Post-It Scriptures You Need at The Office

1.) John 3:28-30 ” He must become greater; I must become less.”

This is so necessary when dealing with other people as well.  If you humble yourself you are less likely to become offended and angered.  More likely to harbor un forgiveness.

2.) Matthew 6:25 ” Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink.”

What is the whole reason we work?  Finances are a number one excuse people give for being under life shortening stress.

3.) Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed. for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Sometimes we need STRENGTH from the holy spirit and we got to do what we got to do to be a mom, employee, wife or superwoman.

4.) Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

At a job where you feel underpaid, under appreciated and not at the right place.  God knows the plans and his are perfect according to his will, which is ALWAYS better than our own.

5.) Ephesians 5:1-2 ” Be imitators of God and walk in love.”

Love my co-workers???  That is too extra…no its what we are called to do.

6.) Philippians 1:6 ” Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

We are always under construction.

7.) James 1:19-21 “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

This one I saved for last because it is a good one, I did not plan to tickle the eyes with this one but to step on a few toes including my own.

Hope these are as useful to you as they are for me!

How God Paid For Our Wedding

Since I could remember I have been dreaming about a perfect fairytale wedding.  I remember thinking, “A castle would do.”  As an adult, my thoughts began to change.  Once the planning started; all of the price tags began to show up like an evil wasp chasing me in a dream (I hate wasps!).

Now days, people can get away with that!  “Oh you want that service for a wedding not a corporate event?” Let me say that service for a wedding is about $300 more.  WHY?!  Young couples getting married are now shelling anywhere from 20,000-33,306 dollars!!  It is crazy!  Now, good for the ones who have parents saving up for something like this.  Others may not have that advantage.

Of course I had a mental check with my 5 year old self.  My new thoughts “Ok, obviously this is going to be a little different than what I have wanted before, but I will make it work.” “God will make it work.”

Now, I know stepping out in faith has no real power unless I BELIEVE that God is working.  So many Christians today say they have faith although they really walk in fear and defeat, they just say they believe…this was me for so, so long.  The experience I had planning a wedding was the first one where I actually GAVE it ALL to him…boy did he make it worth it.  Just before this I had surrendered my life to God…ALL of it.  I was no longer sitting on the fence with one foot on the side of the world and the other on the side with Christ.

One miraculous thing happened after another, we found a church that offered us a free venue.  God led us to a florist that later decided to help us after we told her we were not going to be able to get flowers because of finances after one of us lost our jobs.  Her exact words one night on the phone was “I feel like God led me to do your bouquets for FREE!”  We found a closet in the venue that happened to have an entire collection of wedding décor that they so willingly let us borrow.  My uncle happens to be a pastor so we had our officiant.  I am a graphic designer so I made my own invitations.  My cousin was a photographer so she offered to do our pictures!!! IT WAS AMAZINGLY CRAZY how God was pulling this off.

BELIEVE and you will receive.

Throughout all of these miracles that were popping out of the heavens through God open doors for ministry opportunities.  I tell you what I ate it up…I told everyone what God was doing in our lives.  It helps people to believe too.  It is so important to tell the world of the blessings that you receive through this life walking with Christ.  I hope this helps you believe a little more and remember that God’s got it!

By Faith

Hebrews 11

11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
